Friday 11 October, 7.30pm, St Endellion Church
The sublime-voiced jazz singer Gabrielle Ducomble and her outstanding four-piece band come to St Endellion for the first time. Gabrielle, who is Belgian-born and London-based, has earned wide acclaim for her Parisian jazz and tango arrangements, presenting a fresh, contemporary take on iconic songs by the likes of Piaf, Piazzolla, Legrand and Brel, and becoming an ever popular performer in the UK and across Europe. Alongside reworkings of familiar songs, she will perform work from her 2018 self-penned album Across the Bridge, which features original compositions in English and French. The songs draw on her love of jazz, chansons, tango, latin rhythm and new-age, telling uplifting stories and dreams on themes of nature, art, social justice and ideology.
“Astonishingly beautiful voice” – Emma Freud, BBC Radio 4
“Her voice resonated in parts of my body that I’d forgotten belonged to me, and her lyrics about childhood moments and past loves, sounded in my head long after people spilled out of the venue and back to their lives….. She was accompanied by a band of musicians that looked as if they enjoyed themselves nearly as much as the audience – and that’s saying A LOT!” Kate Delamere, London Jazz News
“Ducomble’s pure-toned voice, impeccable phrasing and ability to really sing through the melodic line compels attention” Peter Quinn – Jazzwise
“Outstanding band” – Eddie Myer, Jazz Views
