Opera Ridotta: Man is for Woman Made?
Saturday 13 June, 7.30pm, St Endellion Church
Opera Ridotta perform a new and exciting form of opera, an accessible mix of recital and theatre, creating new storylines by using songs from across the genre. Their new piece Man is for the Woman Made? explores the fragility of love through Henry Purcell’s music, in a dramatic costumed performance. It will also highlight Purcell’s musical influence on 20th century English composers by including arrangements by Michael Tippett and Benjamin Britten.
Ruth Hopkins, soprano, who has performed before at St Endellion with the K’antu Ensemble, has joined forces with baritone Alex Poulton and pianist Simon Watterton to form Opera Ridotta. This new show offers a perfect way to experience opera for the first time. Sung in English and with original story lines, this exciting new take on traditional pieces will leave you craving more!
“Very innovative presentation. Centuries just tripped by. It was just like we were there at a Purcellian Evening.” (John McGregor, Curator: Sidholme Music Room)
